hello, i'm rob.

Clan Wars is our main focus, and as such, we have rules in place to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and rewarded for their efforts. The goal is to maintain our competitive level of play, constantly improve ourselves, and maintain a fun and profitable experience. Hopefully this FAQ answers most of your questions.

Q: What is a “reasonable 3-star attempt”?

A: A reasonable 3-star attempt is using a decent army composition to attack a base that you are able to 3-star. Attacking a base that you have no chance of 3-starring, even with a decent army, constitutes a loot grab. Failing to use a strong army composition (usually substituted with a much cheaper alternative) also constitutes a loot grab. Attacking a base that is too weak for your troops levels is unacceptable.

Exceptions to this are TH10 bases and stronger TH9 bases.

Q: What are the biggest problems players have with making appropriate 3-star attempts?

A: A common problem is either aiming too high, or aiming too low. Aiming too high means you’re attacking an opponent that is much too strong for you, either because your troops are too weak, your experience is insufficient, or both. This is often motivated by the desire for a higher war bonus. Aim too high, and you might be called out for a loot grab!

Aiming too low occurs when someone attacks an opponent many ranks below their own. This usually happens because a player is too apprehensive about attacking opponents closer to their rank, or they want to show that they are improving/contributing. The downside to this is that you are depriving lower-ranked allies of feasible targets for them to make their 3-star attempts.

Attacking the right opponent by taking into account your army levels and personal skill is part of the challenge in Clan Wars, and something we hope the entire clan improves upon. A good rule of thumb is to try and stay within a dozen ranks of your own clan rank when choosing a target to 3-star.

Q: Why do I have to make a reasonable 3-star attempt even if we’re winning?

A: Players might attack earlier or later depending on their time zone, schedule, and even what army they use. Opening all attacks to snipes after a war is declared “won” would encourage less-scrupulous players to wait until others had made the real attacks and won the the war for them. They would then have access to higher war loot bonuses without any of the sacrifice.

Similarly, allowing players to 2-star higher level bases when a war is declared “won” would have the same effect. Even if you could still contribute stars with your first attack by attacking a much higher base (see loot grab definition), you are taking advantage of the fact that others came in and secured 3-star attacks first, often aiming for “safer” bases and accepting a lower war bonus in the name of securing a win. To perform a loot grab for your first attack is to take advantage of your fellow clanmates.

Requiring the first attack to be a reasonable 3-star attack ensures that nobody is delaying their attack in order to secure more loot for themselves. Everyone contributes and sacrifices to the war effort, no matter when they make their first attack.

Q: All the bases I can 3-star have already been 3-starred by other players! What now?

A: If you are certain there are no bases you can reasonably 3-star (including bases that only have 2-stars on them - cleanup is important!) and the war is difficult, then you may find the lowest base that you can 2-star and attempt that. Be sure to notify the clan leadership.

If the war is easy, or if there are no bases with less than 2 stars that you can reasonably 2-star, then simply 3-star a base that already has 3 stars. While this seems like wasting an attack, please do this as a sign of respect to your fellow clanmates, to show that you will not use your first attack for a higher war bonus even if there are no more targets to gain 2 or 3 stars from. Furthermore, the first attack will remain an attack that you can gain valuable experience from, refining your ability to consistently obtain 3-stars from an appropriate base.

Q: The war was declared “won”, can I snipe now? Can I snipe or loot grab first then make my “3-star attempt” afterwards?

A: If the war is declared “won”, then you may only snipe if your first attack was a reasonable 3-star attempt, or a sanctioned 2-star attack. You may not snipe or loot grab on your first attack, ever. Even if you say you won’t have time to make your second attack due to schedule reasons, please respect the others in your clan by following the rules.

Q: Uh oh, the clan leaders told me that my first attack was a loot grab. What happens now?

If the clan leadership has called you out and declared your first attack to be a loot grab, then you are no longer eligible to use your second attack as a snipe. The best course of action is to apologize and to use your second attack to make a reasonable 3-star attempt. If this happens multiple times, then your standing in the clan may be jeopardized.

If you snipe for your first attack, then you should immediately apologize and use your second attack to make a reasonable 3-star attempt as soon as possible. Doing this again in any future war will result in an immediate kick.

Q: Why are we not allowed to miss consecutive wars?

A: Part of becoming a better player is to stay in practice. Backing out of warfare and farming for a while not only causes the clan to lose attacks in each war, but your own skills will fall out of shape, and you will make no improvement.

Remember that exemptions are granted freely, so long as you notify the clan leadership ahead of time.

We take wars seriously. We expect members to pull their weight. If they can’t currently do so, we expect to see efforts at improving. Some people are trying pretty hard in every war. It’s not fair to those people if others are just along for the ride.

What does it mean to pull your own weight?

Pulling your weight means that you help us win the war. If you cannot hit appropriate level targets, you aren’t helping us win wars. We are winning in spite of you. Here’s what you should be able to do MOST of the time, based on TH level:

TH7 - Use dragons to 3 star all TH7 and weak TH8

TH8 - Start with dragons to 3 star weak TH8. Use hogs to 3 star ALL TH8 targets. As hogs reach level 4, start to 3 star weak TH9 targets. May help out with 2 stars on TH9 bases that cannot be 3-starred.

TH9 - TH9 is now a very tricky battlefield. Many TH9 targets cannot be 3-starred. Skill with hogs is still mandatory, as is skill with dragons for safe 2-stars. Other compositions might become required as time goes by.

TH10 - 2 star TH10’s at about your level. 3 star any TH9, or 2-star top TH9 bases that cannot be 3-starred.

I’m new. What do I do?

You have 2, maybe 3 wars to show us what you can do. Either hit those targets or show us that you are going to quickly learn how.

I’m old. Do I still have to seek ways to improve?

If you aren’t consistently succeeding, then yes. Nobody—not even elders and leaders—is exempt.

How can I improve?

Before anything else, you need to make sure your troops and camps are upgraded sufficiently. Upgrade offense before defense. Upgrade your camps. Upgrade your hogs. If your defense and farming troops are significantly upgraded past your war effectiveness, you are going to be a liability. If upgrades for war do not appear to be a priority for you, then this might not be the right clan for you.

While your offense is upgrading, work on your skills. Send modmail to get reviews of your attacks. Ask for advice on clan chat and groupme before and after your attack. Watch successful replays. Watch youtube videos.

Look at the most effective members with the same troops and army size as you. There’s no reason you cannot do the same as them, with a little practice.

Why are you all so mean? This is just a game.

We want to see everyone succeed. We like the old members. We have great hopes for the new members. Again, it is unfair to have some members putting in great effort to carry those who aren’t. If you aren’t willing to take it seriously, this war clan may not be the right fit for you.

nobody can save you but
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
to make you submit, quit and /or die quietly

nobody can save you but
and it will be easy enough to fail
